Campbell
Campbell begin it's real estate building boom
in the 1940s when 1,200 residential units were built. Another 3,100 home
and apartments were built in the 1950s, 4,100 in the 1960s and 2,600 in
the 1980s. The 90s saw less than 1,000 units built.
Residential units, that means homes, condos, apartments and mobile
homes total 16,159 of which 6,822 are single-family homes, 1,908 single
attached, 7,032 multiples and 397 mobile homes.
Campbell is solidly middle-class, a typical suburb. Because it has
been around longer than most suburbs, the neighborhoods have different
character. The homes east of Bascom Avenue are slightly older, more
upscale and have more trees and foliage.
The town is well cared for and the residents keep up their property.
The downtown has been upgraded and buildings restored. It includes many
small shops, restaurants, theater, coffee houses and bookstores.
Light-rail is on the drawing board by 2005. But, with some big
office buildings and a few high-tech firms, some residents have a very
easy commute in travel-laden Santa Clara County.
