Cupertino

Cupertino began life as a farming community, there were only 500 homes in 1950. Then it was swept up in the great building boom of the 50s through 80s and now has 17,417 housing units: 9,827 single-family homes, single attached 2,145, multiples 5,438 and 7 mobile homes.
Cupertino has its high priced homes, but, mainly, it is solidly middle class: three bedroom homes are very popular.
The schools are excellent, probably the best in the Valley. The residents passed a $71 million bond in 1995 to improve the elementary schools and rewire them for the Internet.
The city is in the heart of Silicon Valley so commute distances are pretty short. Commute times is another matter all together.
