Los Altos

Los Altos homes are some of the highest-priced in the Valley. (See table below.) Single homes account for about 90% of the housing stock. Most of them are built on good-sized lots. There are 10,611 residential units: 9,386 single-family homes, 346 attached homes, 876 multiples and 3 mobile homes. Don't know how they snuck in there.
Los Altos has a lovely downtown shaded with tall redwoods, pines and other trees. Many world-class restaurants call Los Altos home. There are sidewalk cafes, boutiques, art galleries, coffee shops, bakeries. City also has seven shopping centers.
The schools are excellent, at the top in the state rankings. All six elementary schools are "distinguished", meaning the state thinks they are well-run. Day care is available at the elementary schools. The residents consistently pass taxes and bonds to pay for the schools.
Foothill Expressway runs through town so the commute is not bad. Also the 280 and the 101 are close by.
