Santa Clara County Schools
Santa Clara County schools are, for the most part, above
average. There are 33 school districts in Santa Clara County. They are
divided into Elementary School Districts, High School Districts and
Unified School Districts. For a list of schools and links to the schools
and school districts in a specific city, click the community name in the
menu to the right.
The Santa Clara
County Office of Education is the over-riding
authority
for public schools in Santa Clara County. The SCCOE has developed an
extensive site on the educational opportunities in the county. If you are
moving your family into the area and are concerned about schools, start at
the
Choosing a School page.
Be warned, both the SCCOE site and the Choosing a School site are
very detailed and you will spend quite a bit of time there.
Academic Performance Index
California has instituted a state-wide school ranking system. The
Academic Performance Index (API) is mandated by the Public Schools
Accountability Act of 1999. Every California public school will be ranked
based on student performance.
The new index gives communities an objective way to measure a
school's academic success. The API will allow the state to hold schools
accountable for annual improvement and to reward or sanction schools based
on performance.
